A Chancellor's Postdoctoral Fellowship Program was initiated to assist scholars who are dedicated to American Indian Studies and are committed to University teaching and research. This fellowship program annually provides two stipends, association with program faculty, and access to the library's vast collections. The University of Illinois Library holds nearly 10 million volumes and ranks third among academic libraries in North America and first among public libraries in the world.

Postdoctoral fellowships are available annually with the American Indian Studies Program. The fellowship appointment period is for one year from August 16, 2019 to August 15, 2020; deadline to apply -- December 1, 2018.

An applicant must demonstrate promise for a tenure track appointment at a research college or university. Preference will be given to applicants who have completed their doctorate or appropriate terminal degree within the past five years.

Recipients of these fellowships must be in residence full-time at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign campus for the duration of the award period. Fellows may not hold other fellowship awards at the same time they are receiving a postdoctoral fellowship. In addition to working on their research project and participating in the program's activities, fellows may teach a course.
