Job Announcement--Native American House Director
DIRECTOR
NATIVE AMERICAN HOUSE
Nature of Position: The Director is a 12-month full-time academic professional staff member at the Native American House (NAH), the Native American cultural center at the University of Illinois and is also an Assistant Dean of Students in the Office of the Dean of Students. The Director is responsible for the overall coordination and implementation of programs and staff at NAH, management of facility, fiscal planning and budgeting. NAH is a unit within the Office of Inclusion and Intercultural Relations (OIIR) and the Director reports to the Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs / Director of OIIR.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master's Degree in higher education or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience. Three years professional experience in student affairs, higher education administration, or with Native American community organizations. Professional experience with developing Native American programs and services. Experience supervising professional and student staff members. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective collaborative relationships with Native American constituencies.
In addition to those identified in the above, responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Providing leadership, assistance and support to the NAH staff and Advisory Committee in reviewing the mission and goals of NAH and creating a Center strategic plan consistent with the OIIR, Student Affairs, and University of Illinois Strategic Plans.
Collaborating with other Student Affairs and campus units in the development of services and programs related to Native American students and integrating the Center's educational and cultural activities with those provided by other campus units.
Working with American Indian Studies (AIS) to foster relationships with local, state, and regional Native American community members and organizations.
Collaborating and coordinating events with the AIS program and faculty members.
Developing, organizing, and evaluating programs at NAH that advance awareness of American Indian issues, encourage diversity, and educate the greater community as a whole, as well as collaborating with other centers in joint efforts related to diversity more broadly.
Participating in Divisional and University-wide Native American student recruitment and retention initiatives. This includes working with the Office of Admissions in planning and promoting strategic initiatives that will result in greater numbers of admitted Native American students at the university.
Developing and promoting Native American alumni relations.
Promoting development activities, including grant writing and fundraising aimed at creating resources for Native American student programs and retention efforts.
Representing NAH/OIIR on campus-wide standing and ad-hoc committees.
Recruiting, recommending hiring, and evaluating staff at NAH.
Coordinating the production of reports for internal and external units.
Performing other duties as assigned by the Associate Vice Chancellor/Director of OIIR.
