Students, Community Members Rally Against Racism

October 31, 2006

More than 300 students and community members rallied on the Quad to protest the October 5, 2006 "Tacos and Tequila" party by the Zeta Beta Tau fraternity and Delta Delta Delta sorority where students dressed in stereotypical "Mexican" dress and brown-face.

A diverse coalition of students of color organized the rally because of the lack of response from the administration as well as the overall climate of intimidation for under represented students. Many of the speakers at the rally also made connections between the hostile campus climate and the board of trustees' promotion of the "chief" mascot.

Following the rally there was a protest at the Delta Delta Delta house, the Zeta Beta Tau house and the Swanlund Administration Building. Permissions received from I Resist.
